Fantasy adventure movies have always been a great option for audiences who want to watch something with their families. From Star Wars to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pirates of the Caribbean or even The Lord of the Rings have come as a wonderful way to connect parents and children through exciting adventures full of colorful characters and creatures. I know that’s my case. I’m fond of all the noted sagas precisely because of that. Because they have offered me escapist fun that I have been able to enjoy as either a kid or an adult, quite often doing that while watching them with family or friends. They offer you two hours of mindless fun that will keep you talking about how cool or fun was one scene or character, and coming back to the movie whenever you want to go on a mind adventure or even go on a nostalgia trip when you first watched that movie for any reason. That’s what makes this kind of Blockbusters special. That emotional connection.

So, as a good fan of this kind of movie, I wanted to create my own fantasy adventure and I did that through this script. Scarlett Jones and the Hidden Legion is the kind of escapist adventure that can be enjoyed by both children and adults alike as it offers something for everyone. It offers a fun, colorful experience with compelling characters (including a lovely bulldog who plays a key role in the climax) while poking at some more serious subjects such as the way families are torn apart sometimes due to a loss or communication problems, which is something a lot of more adult viewers can relate to. Here, we have a young sorcerer whose problems with her father, the leader of the order, have forced her to live away from the magic world, and is struggling to survive on her own – something that often happens with young adults and even more in this generation where there are so many discussions about all kinds of subjects. Through the last couple of years, we have seen a major separation of families because of political ideas, and while is important to stand for what we believe in, it’s also important trying to find a bridge with our parents because, well, they are family. So, we need to find a dialogue and a way to respect each other, and, in a way, that’s what this story is truly about. A lot of the problems that happen here, take place due to poor communication or confusion. Even with the villains. This isn’t the usual “good vs evil” kind of story, but rather, it dares to explore the complexity of having two groups with different points of view and proposes to find a non-violent way to solve things. Sure, there is action. There are some fights and everything, but, in the end, it’s the mutual understanding and acceptance that things can be done differently, that offers a solution for the problems the characters are facing, whether it be between our protagonist, Scarlett Jones, and her father, or between the sorcerers.

All of this, then, makes Scarlett Jones and the Hidden Legion a different entry into the fantasy adventure genre, and one that, as every good story like this, offers the opportunity to grow. Many things can be further explored in this world, and Scarlett sure still has a lot to learn… but, in the meantime, here we have a fun, yet thought-provoking adventure that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike.
