Experiencing Interruptions?

Roots Kornevoi

The soundtrack of the main movie and the original soundtrack are the same. It is made in one take with one recording, and the composition is new, created just before the take. Later, movie clips from New York, Helsinki, Stockholm, and London are added. It has a symphonic nature or essence. There is a short aria performed irregularly and some themes, although musically it is between rock and jazz. It is an obvious improvisation made in one take. The take is raw, without arrangements for a larger band or orchestra, although harmony exists. It includes electric guitar, drums, and vocals. The film also has documentary moments; once the camera falls and they continue playing. Film clips include street scenes, demonstrations, graffiti, street performers from Washington Square Park. It also has a few absurd segments about rats, and stylistically approaches camp films.
This could be the next step: creating a new movie or animated film about the life of rats deep under the city in the corridors. Music inspires developing a frame story that could tell about the world after the big bang, when the magnetic hole continues to expand and rats are the only survivors. Their plans and drawings are ready and are just waiting for the right moment to rise from the wet cellars and corridors. Did you hear them buzzing and crawling, swarming and rustling? This is their new national anthem: Roots Kornevoi. Music: Tomi Christiansson, performed by the Matilda Mother band.

Roots Kornevoi
Fear – don´t you fear your roots
you belong to a chain unbroken
from distant times
and here on to the future

open your eyes and see your sister
open your eyes and see your brother
search and you´ll learn from the past
search - imagine possible futures

Director Biography - Tomi Christiansson, Ninel Grönholm

Tomi Christiansson is a composer from Finland and he is Matilda Mother band´s guitarist. The members are Ninel Grönholm and Tomi Christiansson.
His main instrument is the electric guitar and especially the melodic, feedback guitar, though most of the recordings has been made with an acoustic guitar, drums, piano, sometimes bass or slide guitar.
The name of the band comes from Pink Floyd ´s song Matilda Mother. They have published four LP vinyls: Sähkö, 700Napa-38, Lucky City and Sound Paintings, digital material more in bandcamp. There are two members and they do all the noise and sounds. Music influences vary a lot, but Tomi Christiansson has learned to play by ear at very early ages. He is listening and processing the harmonies in his head all the time: music is his life and he improvizeses as a method daily and processes new material for compositions constantly. As improvising is the method in this band, Ninel and Tomi have started to go towards longer pieces choosing one or two themes and varying the instruments while playing. The moment when the sound is still fresh and not overbaked for some common conception of how music should sound. Some raw but definitely their own unique sound, that´s what Matilda Mother band is made of.
