Remedy

The story of group of young people travelling by boat from the Canary Islands to the southern part of Senegal to bring simple water filters to the Casamance area. The visual mosaic captures life of citizens of seven local villages and shows the process of implementing the Water for Senegal project of People of Hope (civic association). The Remedy show their successes and failures, the pitfalls and problems that accompany their journey. It shows the culture and life of local people and also points out the impact of climate change on the life of communities in the region. It discusses the effectiveness and sustainability of this project and raises a question about the community's dependence on aid development. The aim of the film is to raise awareness of the world's water problems, highlight the visible effects of climate change and inspire people to take an active part in what is happening around us.

Director Biography - Jakub Šipoš

Independent filmmaker and photographer. His first documentary “The Right Place: Nine Islands" (2017) shows the importance of particular ecological issues of nowadays through interviews and opinions of the local people who are connected through surfing and the ocean itself. The documentary creates the message saying we need to take better care of our "home". In 2017, he co-founded the civic association People of Hope. In 2018, the organization realized project "Water for Senegal". Within the project they installed 200 filters in 5 villages in Casamance area in the south of Senegal, in 4 local schools and built a new roof over the water tank in a local village. Their project has impact on more than 2000 people by improving their living conditions and giving them access to clean water. They are currently preparing a campaign to continue the project in Senegal. Last year he took part as a DOP in the production of the documentary On The Forest Frontline, which highlights the dramatic deforestation of the Indonesian island of Borneo and its impact on local communities. He is currently working on the documentary Waste is Us, which will provide a comprehensive picture of the world of waste, offering a behind-the-scenes look from the places where waste is generated, processed and "disappeared". The film points out the need to recycle our thinking.
