Director Statement

Quarantine Horror Story was a labor of love conceived by Writer/Director Ruthellen Cheney. The idea for the project came from the constant stream of webcam communication to stay in touch with loved ones, feeling connected to the outside world and in the new normal of a screen being your access to your daily work.

Using the horror genre as a metaphor to deal with personal demons and depression, Ruthellen wove together a story about a tight knit family who, despite familial drama and strife, try their best to stay connected; while being physically far away from one another. In these screen to screen interactions, that the true horror of the story reveals itself. When hundreds of miles away from your loved ones, witnessing something horrible happening to them, and you are powerless to stop it.

Founder of The Mechanicals, Alexis Confer, brought together the team of creator Ruthellen Cheney, as well as Co-Director of the series Cecilia Faraut, and Assistant Director Sarah Zerod to take The Mechanicals from a theater only company to a multimedia platform, evolving with the times. Together these four women leaders helped shape the visual tone and atmosphere of the project as well as bringing together the amazing cast who brought the scripts to sparkling life.

This project has been an immense pleasure and welcome distraction from the truly shocking and upsetting times we are living in... we can only hope this project will serve as the same for the audience we’ve made it for.
