Director Statement

I was at the age of 15 when I began writing this script. I had to quickly adapt myself to circumstances and events that were happening to black people around me and it got me thinking. This film world is filled by white people. Mainly, white men. I am not white nor male. I have been recently been thinking about this more often than I probably should, but I tend to not stray away from the blatant truth. I create real stories about black people and the black experience because as a black person myself, it feels refreshing to see myself as a real character in a film and not just a placeholder. I make the stories that I want to see because if I don’t, nobody will. Where will that lead me and other black people everywhere who feel neglected by today’s films? I need to be the change that I want to see in the world as Ghandi quotes. It’s also important for me to tell the stories that I tell because of the stereotypes that are constantly shown to those who have negative views of black people. It is a great way to shed a light on black culture and how black people actually operate in day-to-day life.
