Humans develop relationships with many animals - so why not a fish?
French scuba instructor Mike befriends a special and unique-looking fish called Maurice in the paradise of Crete's Kalypso Bay.
After bonding over 3 summer seasons, Mike now worries for the safety of his fish friend and diving buddy as fishermen appear near Maurice's home waters.

Director Biography - Gareth Bartlett

For Mike & Maurice, Gareth not only set himself the task of capturing the emotional underwater bond between man and fish, but becoming a qualified scuba Dive Master in order to do so.
So with zero diving experience, he left the UK and headed to Greece...

With a 20-year career as a journalist, Gareth started making innovative and award-winning news video content in his mid-20s before moving on tell different kinds of stories - weddings, music videos and commercial content, like many filmmakers. But his passion has always been people.
With Mike & Maurice, Gareth goes back to his roots of classic storytelling, direct from the source, while also becoming a qualified scuba diver in order to capture the incredible tale.
