Mermaid Squama

In a story that spans between two eras, Ah Yau finds himself transported from modern times into his past life; reliving a journey of fantastical love with a girl named Man Man. This is the story of how Man Man, a fairy fish of starlight and silver transformed into a woman, came into his life to repay a kindness that he himself had long forgotten. It is only when Ah Yau returns to his body in the modern day that all the memories resurface, reminding him of a bond that should never have been forgotten.

Director Statement

I have made this microfilm because I very appreciate this story. It is a script written by Taiwanese girl Lin Meng Ching. The story is about a big silver-gray fish incarnating as an adult to repay his gratitude and finally sacrifice for love. I really like fantasy and romantic stories, so I decided to shoot it. This time, we are representing Hong Kong One Cool Pictures Ltd. to carry out this microfilm project, and this time we are fortunate to be shortlisted in the professional group of the 9th Microfilm x Music Competition Support Program among more than 200 applications, and won Hong Kong government-affiliated agencies Hong Kong Association of Interactive Marketing (HKAIM) and Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) provided HK$220,000 for the production.
