Tuscan-born Ginevra Gentili-Elsworthy is an Italian-British film director coming from a photography and cinematography background. She has been directing since her early twenties and co-runs an independent production company, North Harley Films. Ginevra has both directed and produced award-winning short films like Martin (2020), Tell Tale Signs (2016), music videos and music documentaries (Eivør Talks Tour) and more. In her films, Ginevra mostly focuses on coming-of-age dramas and films based on true stories, and she's in development for her debut feature which she hopes to begin production for soon.
'Martin' is most definitely a passion project. Because the script is theatrical in nature, but with a cinematic ending, I really wanted to draw inspiration from both crafts. I believed the perfect blend of the two would have presented the right medium to bring it to the screen. My vision for the film was always a one-shot sequence for the majority of the film, until the moment of the reveal in the story, so I inevitably drew inspiration from many places.
The entire cast and crew were all a perfect fit for the project and everyone was really passionate about the script, because they really liked the character, and when there is such genuine passion, things come together much more fluidly.
The film is a psychological suspense short, but essentially a monologue with a series of twists, that touched on so many relevant and relatable topics, but with just with the right amount of sarcasm and so much subtext contained in the story. There is a lot to take from 'Martin', and I hope as many people as possible will get the chance to experience the film.'
