Director Biography - Dann Emmons

As a filmmaker I have always been interested in the notion of identity and storytelling within the world we live in and in our communication of character, whether real or fictional. Having chosen a career in the Film and Media Industry I hope to continue to put this natural curiosity of mine into a visual format, telling stories through the medium of Film Making and Media.

Director Statement

'Louder Than Words' came out of a commercial pitch I had created for a Mobile Phone commercial, in which I explored the impact that Mobile Phones must have had on the Deaf Community. The Pitch only got to the Shortlist stage but the idea never left me. I began to explore deeper into the culture of Deafness and discovered a severe lack of films or stories that featured Deaf Characters in which their Deafness was not their defining feature. This seemed scarily similar to the situation many minority performers have found themselves in within the film and television industries. I endeavored to make a change to this and to explore a universal story, that transcends language, and would work no matter what your background.

Influenced by my love of classic Romance films like Say Anything, When Harry Met Sally and the back catalogue of Richard Curtis; 'Louder Than Words' is a story of love lost and the realities of modern relationships.
