Coming from a mostly theatre and acting background I decided to apply for a masters in film directing after finishing my undergraduate degree. I have just finished making my first short film that I also co-wrote and I will be looking for industry jobs and an opportunity to direct again in 2020.
Letting Go is a film that tackles the transformative power that improv theatre can have on an individual. I hope the audience laugh at the absurdity of improv whilst also appreciating the power of detaching ourselves from our problems and surrendering to the unknown.
The motivation for the 4:3 aspect ratio to play on Peter’s feeling of stress and being under pressure in an uncomfortable environment. A literal sense of being boxed in. But also, both my cinematographer and I felt that changing the aspect ratio would help experiment a bit with different framing and make the film a little bit more visually appealing.
