Director Biography - Roy H. Howard, Jr.

As a seedling birthed from the soil of inspirational Rhythm and Blues tunes, there is no wonder that music would claim an integral part of Roy H. Howard, Jr.’s life—music intertwines within his very DNA. From conception to birth, his parents’ prime occupation was travelling the music circuit among renowned artists. His father, the late Louis Brown, laid down his soulful bass and lead guitar licks in the studio with iconic legends such as Sam Cooke and Shirley Caesar. Roy Howard's Uncle Carl is non-other than Carl Davis of the famous Dixie Hummingbirds.
Although Mr. Howard’s early years would take a detour from music, within a short period of time, his gift would emerge with a passion! His adopted and loving parents were amazed that he had taught himself to play the piano and drums as early as the age of five, and would later master five instruments, compose in multiple genres, and write and produce stage plays. With his keen ear and compassionate heart, also came an innate love for people. In his hometown of Richmond, VA, Roy Howard began to develop into leadership roles such as assistant Boy Scout leader and youth choir director. By the time he was in high school, he was the director and a lead vocalist in a popular R & B band.
Once again, his music seemed to have taken a detour when he abruptly enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. Texas proved to be the hub and briar patch that cultivated his passion for music and people that both burned so intensely within.
Today, Roy H. Howard, Jr. is the CEO/Co-founder of Relationship Diversity LLC. This program allows the opportunity to display his skills as an author, self-enrichment instructor, and Music Specialist. For more than 30 years, he has been helping people re-evaluate their position in socially challenging relationships. His formal training began at Fort Hood, Texas, as a drug/alcohol adviser, conducting individual substance abuse assessments with soldiers and their families. Mr. Howard later volunteered and successfully taught relationship intervention classes in the Texas federal and state prison systems for more than five years.
Roy Howard not only reaches out to others through his unique teaching style, but he also reaches out using his gifts and talents as a musician/composer. He has worked as a volunteer for AIDS Services of Austin, as a youth /adult music director, and mentor for the Austin Independent School District. In these positions, he assembled and directed various multicultural musical groups. Roy Howard participated in the AIDS Conference in Austin, Texas, with over 1500 attendees, with over 60 voices in a multicultural youth choir performing one of his compositions, "I Need a Friend," written specifically for the occasion. Following the performance, the choir was showered with a five-minute standing ovation! Mr. Howard is an ordained minister of music. He is the founder of Comfort Ministry and producer of their outstanding CD, "In Troubled Times, God can Give You Peace of Mind." Roy H. Howard, Jr., has written and arranged music for an over 90 piece orchestra that he also conducted. He has written over 25 original songs/compositions and won a songwriting contract in a Nashville competition, which produced his first country single, “How can I.” In addition to writing and producing various stage plays and musical skits, Mr.Howard is also the composer of the “Let Your Spirit Flow” song, director and co-producer of the Let Your Spirit Flow music video, and co-creator of the LYSF Movement as found on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
