Michael Long is an Assistant Professor of animation at Webster University in St. Louis, MO, where he has taught for many years. His previous award-winning animated films include "Eyepiece" and "Follies: An Introduction to Don Quixote." He also teaches foil fencing and performs close-up magic—both of which help him better understand how to create illusions.
I share Norman McLaren’s belief that animation is what happens in between the drawings. If an artist leaves well-timed gaps, then the audience can take part in the delightful pleasure of filling them in. The animator and the audience co-create the film moment by moment to give it meaning.
