Inside Time
Inside Time is a look at the experience of lockdown that isn’t about headlines or statistics but about the small, simple ways in which it has perhaps transformed us, taught us something about time, about ourselves inside time. About how it stopped the clock for all of us.
The film is a product of The Shooting From Home Project, which I started back in March 2020, shortly after the lockdown began in the UK. I realised there must be loads of filmmakers, like me, stuck at home with no work, lots of time, and professional camera equipment just sitting around gathering dust, so I thought I would start a project to try and create something inspiring and beautiful out of the situation. With help from The Smalls and their filmmaking community, we collaborated with filmmakers from around the world, each giving us a glimpse of how they spent this unprecedented moment in time.

I am an award-winning Director and DOP with over 10 years of experience making films, specialising in documentary and branded content. After starting out in broadcast television, I went on to work for a successful creative agency where I eventually lead the film department. From the Scottish Highlands to Ivorian Jungles, I have made films all over the world, often in extreme conditions and covering sensitive subjects such as male suicide, child sexual exploitation, or the refugee crisis. In 2019 I was one of twelve filmmakers awarded the Barbican Centre Film Grant for my documentary about digital identities.

Not long after the UK lockdown began, back in March 2020, I realised I was going to need some kind of creative outlet, and that I probably wasn’t the only one out there with camera equipment sitting around gathering dust and a desire to do something creative.
What initially just started as a few filmmakers in the UK, eventually grew into a global project. I think this might have been the most exciting part, as each day we were getting sent clips from filmmakers across the globe. It was fascinating to see not only the different ways people were coping with lockdown but also the many similarities.
The film has really exceeded my expectations. Not only did it, hopefully, give the various collaborators a creative outlet during a difficult time, but I think it succeeds in commenting on how many of us have changed during lockdown. How we’ve been forced to slow down and really focus on ourselves, on the simpler things in life, and perhaps, these are things we’ll take forward with us, as life slowly returns to what it was before.
