Director Biography - Celik Kayalar

Celik was born in 1949. He was a Fulbright Scholar at UCLA, receiving his Ph.D in Biochemistry in 1977. He has been a Research Associate and Faculty at various Universities such as MIT, UC Berkeley, and UCLA in chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology. His Ph.D thesis is credited for earning his mentor, Prof. Paul Boyer, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1997.

He is also an award-winning filmmaker, actor, writer, director, and producer. He owns and runs a film-acting school in Berkeley, California (FABA; http://www.filmactingbayarea.com).

Celik has been painting since the age of six. He has invented a new style of painting named “Layerism” in 1989; It is painting on multiple canvases attached on top of each other, surfaces of which are cut out and torn, revealing the next layer beneath.
