Damien Ferland is an autobiographical filmmaker. He mines his past to tell cringe-worthy stories to the camera at the locations where they happened, most notably in his web series Hyper-Distracted and his most recent film, Bible Camp Memories, which has been selected for the Hot Docs festival. He is in the midst of creating a video diary about self-isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic called Hyper-Distancing that takes place at his home and on walks around his neighbourhood of Saint-Boniface.
I didn't feel that it was right to not make anything during the pandemic, so I took it upon myself to go out into the world as much as I could with just my cellphone. Although the project has more of a low-fidelity quality than my previous projects, it's revealing that I am making something more immediate than before.
