Homefish

Completing “Homefish” was a real challenge…my determination, as well as Aurora’s, was put to the test for a long time. Its production took 5 years, full of ups and downs, big disappointments and little victories. An unfortunate concatenation of wrong encounters that would deserve to enter the Guinness book of records. In the end it turned out to be an opportunity for us to grow in many ways, born from the ashes of what could have been yet another personal failure. But here it is. Thought as the first actual experimental short film produced by Piano9, written by Aurora as final exam of a screenwriting course, Homefish comes out after “The Meeting”, but it’s still our debut work to us, the creature that started it all, similar to a “Piano9 begins”. After take one, in 2015, we were different, and so was civil society. But where does Homefish fit today? It may make you smile, we truly hope so, and with a little imagination, become metaphor of our time, with psychoanalysis suddenly breaking into our reclusive life (to understand reality, sometimes, you need to observe the world from a different perspective). Or, you may want to immerse yourself in this adventure into the unconscious, between Buster Keaton-like slapstick and fantasy movies with a psychological element to them, and observe these two weird characters trying to escape from everyday life.

Portare a termine Homefish è stata una vera impresa... ha messo a dura prova la mia determinazione nonché quella di Aurora per molto tempo. La sua lavorazione ha richiesto 5 anni, costellati da alti e bassi, delusioni cocenti e piccole rivincite. Una concatenazione sfortunata di incontri sbagliati che meriterebbero di entrare di diritto nel Guinness dei primati. Si è rivelata alla fine della corsa un'opportunità di crescita su più livelli, nata dalle ceneri di quello che poteva diventare l'ennesimo fallimento personale. Invece, eccolo qui. Pensato per essere il primo vero corto sperimentale di Piano9, scritto da Aurora come prova finale per un corso di sceneggiatura, Homefish arriva dopo L'incontro, ma per noi resta la creatura degli esordi, il primogenito che ha dato il via a tutto: una sorta di “Piano9 begins”. Da quel primo ciak, nel 2015, siamo cambiati noi e la società civile. Perciò come si colloca, oggi, Homefish? Potrebbe strapparvi un sorriso – ce lo auguriamo di cuore – e con un po' di fantasia diventare metafora dei nostri tempi, in cui la psicoanalisi entra a gamba tesa nelle nostre vite da reclusi (per comprendere la realtà, alle volte, basta osservare il mondo da un'altra prospettiva). Oppure potreste tuffarvi con leggerezza in questa avventura dell'inconscio – tra lo slapstick alla Buster Keaton e il cinema fantastico di stampo psicologico – e osservare questi due strani personaggi in cerca di una via di fuga dalla quotidianità.
