Director Statement

'Grandma' is based on the real life events of my family’s journey, during the COVID-19 crisis. The film documents the week in which my Grandmother was admitted into hospital and contracted the Coronavirus. And how my family from afar, dealt with the emotions and helplessness of this situation.
It is a crucial story to tell, highlighting what many people were dealing with during the Coronavirus Pandemic. But by making it a personal piece, it has the power to resonate with wider-audiences. This film serves as a reflection of the time spent in a crisis. It focuses more on the ripple effect of tragedy and on the families left behind.
The film presents itself in a documentary-drama approach, as I wanted to bring out the reality and naturalism of the experience of that horrific week. I wanted to create something with a poetic nature at its core. Something with a voice of its own, which in turn makes the film experiential for the viewer.
