Golitha Falls

Where we stand flowers will grow again. We can cross the bridge to where the other animals wait for us.

On the surface , this a film about a walk out with Wiley, my Dog. Across the bridge and into the landscape, but it’s a bit more than that really.

Based on two years of wanderings and engagement with the area of Cornwall, Uk known as Golitha Falls: a new take on natural history and our place within it. Golitha Falls was my response to “burn out”. A positive journey into purpose and place. Here and Now . Scrobble on.

Golitha Falls is a landscape of recovery and successional transition. A place of memory and future:

From its source at the foot of Brown Willy on Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, UK, the River Fowey flows through a sacred landscape. On reaching the South East edge of the Moor, the river flows through a steep sided wooded gorge over a series of waterfalls.

From 1844 to 1855 Golitha Falls was the site of Wheal Victoria copper mine. Though the industrial exploitation of the area was relatively short lived, the fabric, the industrial architecture remains whilst fading in to the procession of woodland and developing ecosystem. Systems built on boundaries that are no longer relevant.
The film was combines real time, stop motion/ time lapse and still photography and tries to get a sense of time movement and detail beyond a “natural history” film .

The film soundtrack includes Maxine Peake reading : “ The Bridge” a poem by Edwardian nature writer /poet Edward Thomas .

The Album was filmed and recorded between June 2018 and December 2020 . The soundtrack is available as a vinyl Record and download.
