George Hilton - The World Belongs to the Daring

Biography of George Hilton, one of the greatest stars of Italian cinema from the 1960s to 1980s. Hilton left his rich family in Uruguay with nothing but courage and went to Italy after his dream of being an actor, to become a star of spaghetti westerns, thrillers and other popular genres. However, at the height of his career, fate hit him hard. Through his life and career, we have a fascinating panorama of the Italian film industry in which cowboys and masked murderers disputed screens with Fellini, Antonioni and Visconti.

Director Statement

The camera is an amazing storytelling tool. With my work, I hope to entertain and inform, stimulate thoughts and rescue facts and information forgotten or ignored. Telling the story of George Hilton and this effervescent moment of Italian cinema and culture was a great honor and I hope I have done justice to the artists and professionals who were part of this story. I believe and facts tell this documentary might be an interesting option for festivals for several reasons. First, by the popularity of George Hilton, once his films are now object of cult. Second, this Italian popular cinema which George Hilton was part has a lot of aficionados of all ages that attend its showings. And at last, but not least, Quentin Tarantino pays an explicit homage to Hilton and his cinema in his recent “Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood”. My documentary explains a lot of Tarantino’s film protagonist, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is passing in a way that one film complements the other. By selecting my film, a festival will be contributing to the preservation of an important moment of Italian film history that has been ignored, but has influenced cinema all around the world.
