Director Statement

The idea for Fish on Shore originated while talking to the film's executive producer / cinematographer, Shorouk, about leaving ourselves room to change. We were noting how it feels to be caged in our identities—how the second you "come out" as anything, people can only see you that one way.

I wrote the film on the complexity of intersectional identity—these extra waters we have to swim every day that no one else seems to notice. Fundamentally, Adam's journey is about what it means to be boxed and unboxed—especially when its you yourself taping and breaking all those cardboard walls.
