Writer Statement

They say life is stranger than fiction, but that adage doesn’t even begin to explain the bizarre reality that is our current world. So when I write, I borrow from everyday life, from the people I meet, from the experiences I’ve had, in an attempt to share fresh perspectives on widely-known but often overlooked truths.

‘Falling Into Place’ is one such story based on true experiences, some personal and some borrowed. It is definitely a story that needs to be told. The truths it addresses:

- 1 in 3 women across the globe experience physical or sexual violence.
- The statistics are much worse for emotional abuse as it often goes unreported.
- There are very few public spaces in the world where women feel totally safe.
- Family can drive most people up the wall, but we need and love them anyway.

A taste of the fresh perspectives it offers:
- The pain of recovery can be more incapacitating than the pain felt during the injury.
- Saving others is often life’s way of teaching you how to save yourself.
- Your dreams are your destiny, but destiny is high maintenance. So you'd better be ready!

Here’s hoping you enjoy this relatable story about Daya and the unique demands of her destiny.
