Originally from the Philippines, Brian Rubiano holds a Certificate in Rhetoric from Harvard University's Online Learning Program. He is also a US Air Force Veteran with extensive healthcare experience. "F33" is his directorial debut, along with writing, producing, and editing it. Brian is a Producer for the feature documentary "FollowLeadLOVE" and the scripted series "Spirit Box". In addition, he co-produced the documentary "Poetic Truth". Among Rubiano's post-production credits are Amy's Victory Dance (feature documentary) and Dark Matter (narrative short film). Additionally, he is the creator, producer, director, editor, and host of "Behind The Scenes", a monthly television talk show on Manhattan Neighborhood Network's Lifestyle Channel.
Having a shoestring budget of about $1000 and 8 hours to film in one day, it is my pleasure to present "F33", a short film based on my own experiences. It provides a glimpse into the world's most common and debilitating disorder, and arguably the most undertreated due to persistent myths, stigma, and questions surrounding it. Depression. The visual imagery of a psychological thriller allowed me to have artistic license to metaphorically convey the message of this project. Furthermore, the use of AI VFX by converting certain parts of the film into animation provides a juxtaposition of how someone suffering from depression may wear a happy almost cartoon-like mask on the outside. However, behind closed doors is the reality of feeling worthless and empty.
That said, completing this short film has been a meaningful part of my healing process, and it would not be possible without the help and amazing collaboration amongst its cast and crew to make "F33" a reality.
