Egg Party

Egg Party begins in a sun-soaked Brooklyn apartment in late spring. Six women in their late-thirties gather, with lots of wine and laughter, to dye Easter eggs. Through a series of whimsical portraits we discover each woman’s view on her respective egg, lost dreams, and new beginnings. As the afternoon light shifts around them, it is revealed they have gathered to support their friend Molly, who is desperate for motherhood and struggling through loss and infertility. After her world is cracked open, coming together becomes the greatest balm to heal a grieving spirit.

Director Statement

Shot safely in mid-March 2020 in NYC amidst the COVID pandemic, Egg Party is based in part on a real-life Easter egg dyeing party I attended. As I checked my calendar on the day, I realized I’d accidentally misspelled (or perhaps subconsciously), “DYING EGG PARTY”. Yep, bleak for a woman in her 30s. This event, in tandem with a number of friends’ challenges with fertility, infused the initial drafts. It is fitting that Egg Party will be my directorial debut, as I share so much with these women. We meet these women at a crucial moment when suddenly TIME is of the essence. Each character must decide what she wants to do with her...egg. With inspiration from chiaroscuro paintings, Wes Anderson’s playful pastel palette, and Raymond Carver’s “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love”, I see Egg Party as a whimsical and poignant film on fertility, creativity and what you want, and sometimes what you get, from this one wild and precious life.

Driven for equality in representation in storytelling, I am proud that Egg Party received the coveted Panavision New Filmmaker Award and is a female-led story with a predominately diverse female-identifying cast, crew and post team.
