Director Biography - Ankit Singha

Ankit Singha is an independent Indian film director and screenwriter, who for the past decade has been making films. Born in the small town of Malda, Ankit's family relocated to Calcutta when he was just three years old. The vibrant and liberal urban landscape of Calcutta deeply influenced his artistic sensibilities and fueled his passion for filmmaking.

From a young age, Singha was captivated by the silver screen, and fascinated by the magic of moving pictures. At the age of 12, his interest in world cinema ignited, leading him to create his first short film, "Ahoban," in 2014. Shot with a point-and-shoot camera ingeniously mounted on an iron flower stand, this DIY project solidified Ankit's belief that filmmaking is a visual medium that thrives on spontaneity and unconventional approaches and does not rely on written scripts that can be distributed.

This philosophy has guided Singha's career, resulting in numerous short films and documentaries that delve into subjects he feels deeply connected to. His work has garnered recognition both nationally and internationally.
For Singha, filmmaking is a deeply personal endeavor, a means of self-expression and exploration. He remains fascinated by the endless possibilities of this relatively young medium, constantly seeking new ways to push boundaries and challenge conventions. Ankit Singha continues to create films that are both thought-provoking and visually stunning, driven by his love for the art of picture-making.
