Director Biography - Zak Ferguson

As someone who has personally grown up with ADHD and Tourette's, I intend to give my audience a visceral experience of what it can be like to suffer from a serious mental health condition, and how said condition can affect ones perception of reality.

Director Statement

I wanted to make this film because I want to bring awareness to the effect a mental health condition can have on someone's social skills, and how it can shape people's personal identity, for better or for worse. I intend to provide my audience with an upfront experience of how psychosis is not something that comes and goes like a cold, but is a condition that affects people constantly on a daily basis.

I am someone who does not personally suffer from psychosis, however I do have ADHD, Tourette's and OCD. I find it very easy to connect with people with mental health conditions in any form, because an advocation for mental health awareness is something I am very passionate about, and is a conversation that I feel is not nearly the size it needs to be in a day and age where youth culture is something that is so upfront in the media. I hope to spread universal messages that appeal to people both inside and outside the mental health community.

I have very personal connections to people my age who have dealt with psychosis, as well as people my age, yes, students, who have explored the red light district in search for emotional therapy. From what I have heard, it has genuinely worked for them, and I intend to share the experiences of my fellow students, in the form of a girl suffering from psychosis, who explores the red light district in order to form a new identity for herself, to escape the distorted reality she finds herself in, because I'm sure, isn't that what we all want sometimes?

All members of the cast and crew are currently students at Arts University Bournemouth, whom at the time of shooting had just finished their first year.
