Experiencing Interruptions?

Cres: One Life | Documentary

Carlos "Cres" Santiago is not a stereotypical rapper. After quitting his job as a sales representative to pursue his dream, Cres moves from Alicante, Spain, to New York, where he meets Alex F. Ghassan - a talented director, who had been working with many artists but tragically passed away in 2016. We follow Cres' collaborations with well-known rappers in New York in the early 2010's - we dive into the process of how music videos have been created with some of the most legendary artists. More than that, we get to understand the creative processes that usually stay behind the scenes. The film shows the human side of hip-hop and the philosophy of the creative process. The documentary film includes footage shot within the last 15 years across two continents, and among others, features Arkano (Guinness World Record Holder), R de Rumba (Violadores del Verso), Nach (rapper and poet) and Crystal Caines (producer, rapper). Most of the footage of Cres in the film was filmed in the year 2017 when Vita Pictura's production team visited Alicante and its vicinity in Spain. Therefore, in some way, this film is a time capsule of the music atmosphere and trends in Spain and the US during the 2010s. In 2017, Cres felt that music is a reflection of freedom, which he exercised by having his unique two-language style of rapping on the topics he felt were important to him. Therefore, in some way, this is more than a documentary, this is a time capsule of that time period. Not only do we understand Cres' ideas, but we also interview other musicians from Spain and the US who collaborated with him previously. The time capsule that this film is, shows us the state in which music was in before everything changed.
