CENSORED episode 4 - Liminalia

CHAPTER 4 “Liminalia”: Steven survives his overdose and is placed under psychiatric supervision for a few weeks. Ingrid finally brings him home and he sees Paul for the first time since their argument. They smooth things over. The morning after his welcome home dinner, Ingrid leaves out the classifieds for him to find a new job.
Perusing the ads, he looks to the other side of the newspaper and sees a story about his motel catching fire. Fearing for his affairs, he confronts Ingrid. She doesn’t know anything about it, and can only direct him to the garage in case Paul brought something back. Finding nothing, Steven looks up to see Paul pull in and park next to him. Steven asks again if anything was salvaged, but Paul just tells him that everything was either too burnt or waterlogged to keep. Steven decides to see for himself and returns to the motel. He recovers the journal from its hiding place and buries it close to home for safekeeping.
In the middle of the night, Steven hears a noise and goes to investigate. Once downstairs, he eavesdrops on Paul’s conversation with an armed stranger while peeking into his study, only to see his dug up journal lying on the desk. Suddenly, the armed stranger’s partner surprises him from behind with gun to his head. Brought before Paul, we discover that the men are assassins, referred to Paul by Eddy.
Forced to act by Steven’s interruption, Paul reveals what really happened the night Hermann died and subsequently sends him off to be killed. Steven survives their attempt on his life and in his escape, kills his assailants, beginning his quest for the truth behind his father’s work in earnest. He drives to his family’s lake house to find more information on the people Hermann worked with.
During all this time, Ruben has become a police detective and gets dispatched to the scene of Steven’s double homicide. Baffled by the odd murders, Ruben is immediately removed from the case upon his return to the station, as federal agents have taken over the proceedings. Feeling that something is off, Ruben continues the investigation on his own time.
Ruben backtracks his clues as far as he can, until he eventually comes face to face with Paul! Ruben starts questioning him, but upon hearing taht the murders are linked to their misadventure at Area 51, he refuses to hear any more. Ruben storms off despite Paul’s pleas. Paul tries to stop him, and Ingrid comes home just in time to see them scuffling on the front lawn. Ruben drives off while Ingrid and Paul get into another huge fight, as Paul is forced to admit that Steven has disappeared again.
Ruben returns to the police station to destroy any proof of his private investigation but, on his way home, gets ambushed by bizarre looking men in dark suits who use telepathic powers on him. He barely escapes their assault and calls Paul demanding answers. The phone rings and Paul makes the mistake of answering during their argument, which pushes Ingrid to pack her bags and leave, incensed and irate at his casual demeanor to Steven’s disappearance.
Getting screamed at from both sides, Paul has no idea what Ruben is talking about and hangs up to run after his wife, but he’s a second too late. Ingrid drives off, almost striking him with her car. As Paul prepares to give chase, he receives a second phone call, this time from a lake house neighbor. The old woman tells of a young man breaking into their property and Paul puts 2 and 2 together, rushing off to intercept Steven himself before any more damage can be done.
