The documentary, Born in America, focuses on a Chinese family who comes to California to have their baby in order to obtain the privilege of American citizenship. Throughout the film, the audience will learn more about ‘birth tourism’ and why many Chinese families and investors are buying into these programs. Is it legal or not? How will American people be affected by birth tourism? The audience will figure this out with the help of these two families, the agencies, lawyers, and professors.

Director Biography - Zhan Luo

Zhan “Floyd” Luo is an independent filmmaker, editor, and cinematographer currently pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts degree in documentary filmmaking at Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama and Film Arts from Nanjing University’s School of Liberal Arts.
He is the co-founder/CEO of Nanjing New Media Area Cultural Communication Corporation Limited, under which, he has produced several projects including documentaries, microfilms, and publicity films for clients such as ZTE corporation, Sunac Greentown China Holdings Limited, Yanghe Group, Gulou District Government of Nanjing, and Nanjing University.
He has won a number of student festivals and documentary awards in China. In 2014, he won Best Documentary Award in the 11th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and TV Festival from Academy of Film in Hong Kong Baptist University for his documentary The Star Watcher. He also won “Best Documentary Award” in the 10th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and TV Festival in 2013 for his documentary A Parade in China.
