Director Biography - Will Roane

Born in NYC, Will Roane grew up in Alabama and dreamed of returning to New York to pursue filmmaking dreams. Well, here he is. Having done nearly every job on set, from Catering & Crafty Coordinator for the 2017 indie feature Man With Van to now working as a sound mixer & recordist. Having written & directed through college and beyond, he chose for the most part to put those early projects in the vault. Roane began directing again in earnest with the 2020 release of the music video for “Other Line” from Brooklyn-based band Nicomo.

Roane is an avid screenwriter of shorts and features, and counts among his influences Vigo, Reichardt, Kubrick, and Kieslowski. He lives in Harlem.

Director Statement

Billy Boy combines fascinations with mental health, restricted narration and socioeconomics to create a claustrophobic nightmare. In the search for answers about what happened to Billy, or perhaps more importantly to Teddy, the questions become increasingly dark.
