Marco Bolla started his filmmaking career during childhood by filming his action figures, engaged in epic battles, whilst simultaneously narrating the dialogues. He proceeded to appropriate family gatherings as improvised film productions. Whilst the content, casts, crews and sensibilities of his work have changed drastically, that same childlike energy and passion remains in his current work as both a commercial and narrative filmmaker.
Jeanne Remi is a recent graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Liège. She’s an actress, director and teacher for Art-T theatre. Highly inspired by the Stanislavskian method, she focuses her artistic research on actor’s and actress’ inner play and gestures. She has directed two short films and one medium-length film. Jeanne likes to tackle themes about work precariousness and injustice as well as the balance of power that can emerge rapidly between several individuals. Dark humor is her main angle of attack.
Jeanne :
As a professional actrice, I regularly undergo the peculiar process of casting, during which I have to ride an emotional elevator; switching from stress to fear, anger, joy, pride and more - all in a moment’s notice. This process fascinated me.
I approached colleagues, wanting to know about their experiences. People had been subjected to weird power dynamics, embarrassments, humiliations and much more. Being inspired by all of these stories, I wrote Au Suivant (Next).
Marco:
After our previous collaboration, where Jeanne was the actress and I was the director, she asked me to co-direct Au Suivant. I was immediately drawn to the satirical edge of her writing and saw an opportunity to transform the comedic script into a tense, character-driven story centered on the theme of potential, with a subtle existential undercurrent.
Determined to prove that we could create an engaging film with limited resources, we decided to move forward with Au Suivant as a no-budget short. With a passionate team of six, we came together on a single Sunday to bring this story to life—simply because we loved the process of filmmaking.
We hope that our dedication shines through on screen and that viewers will be both entertained and moved by our exploration of hope versus bitterness.
Thank you
