Director Statement

In 2017, I went to see a play at an underground theatre in North Hollywood, CA. The theatre company was a predominate ‘theatre of cruelty’ destination, so I knew the show would be strange and disturbing; indeed it did not disappoint! (I went back 5 times.) That show was called “Artificial Flowers”.

After approaching the writer/star Emily Charouhas, I spent a year visualizing & blocking-out the script. It became clear, early on, that the film I was setting out to shoot was altogether an Experiment; from idea to execution -- from rehearsals to final format — from stage to screen.

Working with Emily Charouhas has been the highlight of my artistic career; I am beyond humbled to have had the opportunity to bring this story to life. Both Ms. Charouhas and Andrew Villarreal give stunning performances in this film; it is a True Honor to be associated with such dedicated actors. Special thanks to Mozaic Studios for the fabulous work as our Finishing Editor, and GOOD AIR, Stephen Charouhas, and Kai Engal for providing our film with a musical soul.

No sequence of my first feature film was permitted to be an afterthought. Beyond grateful for my friends, my family, and my husband. Thank you for being a part of this journey. I was possessed by Maeve & Phelix's story; all those years ago in that small North Hollywood blackbox theatre. I did everything I could to do it justice.

I hope I have.
