Writer/Director James Ross loved to scare people as a kid, but he loved getting scared even more. That is… until he rented Paranormal Activity from Blockbuster when he was ten and was scared a little too much – as in, could barely stand being in his house alone scared. After growing a few more inches and psychoanalyzing his own sick sense of humor, he decided to attend FSU’s College of Motion Picture Arts, thus beginning his crusade behind the camera to scare everyone else too much.
I'm a massive fan of the game "Five Nights at Freddy's". The simple setting, anxiety-inducing tension, and sense of dread with each passing level were all something I really wanted to capture with this film. I wanted the audience to really feel the sense of danger escalating as the vulnerability of the characters became more apparent in comparison to the film's otherworldly antagonist. Something about having a false sense of security when viewing a dire situation through overhead cameras and ripping that away feels akin to ripping away the bed covers when you're hiding from the monster under your bed.
