Director Biography - Rafael Soto

Rafael Soto was born to Puerto Rican parents and raised in New York's South Bronx. He developed a love for theater, television and film at an early age. Although he aspired to be an actor, Rafael took the traditional route and studied marketing in college. After graduating from Pace University in 2002, he moved to Los Angeles where he enrolled in the esteemed Joanne Baron/DW Brown Acting Conservatory in Santa Monica. After completing the Conservatory’s two-year Meisner program, Rafael was cast in several independent and short films. He quickly became aware of how Hollywood viewed Latinos by being cast as the crooked cop, drug dealer, the gardener, and the deadbeat dad. He felt Latinos were being grossly misrepresented. Upon returning to New York, he began to devote all his energy to screenwriting, a talent that was previously unexplored. Inspired by a dream one night, his first screenplay was born. Entitled Richard’s Ranch, the story follows three families from diverse socio/economic groups dealing with HIV/AIDS. Most recently Rafael was hired by Migrante Content to write a pilot for MundoFox and Avila Entertainment to Write and help Produce a sizzle reel called Daddyball.
