I created Cackle Comedy Productions to make people laugh with stories about female protagonists.
My family and friends inspired the characters and themes of each of the three shorts in “The Fertility Nag Bot”, “Clear Aligners are for Everyone”, and “Rec. Hockey Wives”. The talented actors I worked with are friends of mine who connected with each other instantly. The shorts find humour in women’s relationships with family, identities, and female friendships. Creating female driven comedies is a joy.
My relatives truly are very sweet people but they always ask me, "When are you going to have a baby?". "The Fertility Nag Bot" is a satirical infomercial about a robot that nags women to procreate. I want to have a child someday, but I don't need any outside pressure telling me, your biological-clock is ticking. I have friends who do not want to have children, and I think that is fine: nobody should pressure women about their decision. I think it's important to laugh at life and illuminate this issue.
My brother is an orthodontist in Saskatoon and he’s straightening my teeth in Toronto with Invisalign. My own experience with clear braces inspired "Clear Aligners are for Everyone". The technology is incredible, but taking the braces out every time I eat or drink anything other than water is frustrating. I thought: what if a vampire had to take them out before they fed on their prey?
My husband plays hockey and I occasionally attend a game with a novel in hand. "Rec. Hockey Wives" is about a group of women who meet weekly to cheer on their husbands' recreational hockey team. The short makes fun of how some people are really into sports and others are not. But it also sincerely celebrates women’s friendships and camaraderie.
