dani Tardif is a multidisciplinary queer artist based in Tio'tia:ke, Montreal. Their practice is mainly focused on creating spaces where new forms of relationality – individual vs community, subject vs the common - can emerge, through practices of empowerment and subversion. After exploring cinema and theatre, they decided to study social sciences to get tools and experiences around research, research-creation and visual ethnography. In 2013, they directed and edited the documentary On a gagné: retour sur une victoire amère that was presented in multiple festival in Montréal, such as FIFEQ, Hors-Cadre and Cinema Politica Uqam. Following a MA in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Concordia, 2016, researching how the late capitalist era is producing an internalization of the cult toward the continuous betterment of the self, they turned to fiction. They worked as scriptwriter, director and editor on the medium-length film hron, a country of ghosts (expected for 2019). Lastly, they have been working on shorter, more experimental project inspired by themes of eroticism, intimacy, transcendence and power, as well as the tension between fiction and non-fiction, magic and politics. Their last films include bonds 2018 (TQFF, TransFormations, FLIQS, MICGénero) and fruits 2018 (FLIQS, SIP projections). Performance, drag, erotic short stories and visual art are also very much part of their work.
