Chasing Trains

A surprisingly thrilling adventure film about three British lads filming steam trains in Continental Europe.

CHASING TRAINS is a behind the Scenes look into the making of Rail Enthusiast video series 'Steam Locos in Profile'

Fans liken his show to 'Top Gear' for steam trains.

Together with his friends Sam and Adam they drive from Kent in England, to the Netherlands then onto Germany, where they are challenged by the weather and unfamiliar timetables at Brocken Mountain, in the beautiful Harz National Park in Saxony, Germany. Very picturesque, if only the damned weather would behave itself!

In September (2017) I was asked by Chris to come along as an extra camera person to help the lads film their series on steam trains in the Netherlands & Germany.

Also I can speak a bit of German which helped out quite a bit as most people we met in the small village of Zorge and surrounding Harz Mountains did not speak as much English as the lads expected ;)

I was also asked to film a bit of behind the scenes footage for their DVD extras.
After spending almost three weeks living and working with the lads, I felt there was a bigger story to tell. They kindly permitted me to make my own cut of the footage to complete what is now a film that I'm very proud of, 'Chasing Trains.'

The lads are passionate about Steam Trains (obviously) and will do their utmost to get THAT shot (within speed limits and reasonable health and safely standards of course)

On occasion, I'm also in the film as the Rail Fan 'Apprentice' (no you are not allowed to call us Trainspotters) You'll see me early in the morning in the fog somewhere in the Harz mountains in Germany, confused as to which way the train is coming, explaining which way 'not' to shoot a train, furthermore frustrated that I missed that amazing shot due to lack of timetabling accuracy.

Certainly lots of fun and the occasional pun ;-)
