Director Biography - Giuseppe Giacri

Son of Carlos Giacri (businessman) and Ladi Galarraga (housewife). His younger sister is an important factor in his decision to make movies. From a very young age, he shows interest in photography, but it is at the age of 20 when he reaches his true calling, fascinated by A Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick.

BEGINNINGS

In 2000, Giuseppe traveled to the United States to visit his sister, who was studying Journalism at Brenau University, Gainesville, Georgia. There he participates in a short film as the lead actor, which is the starting point to begin his training in the world of cinema. In 2003 he entered the Uruguayan Film School (ECU) in the city of Montevideo. That same year he edited the short film "La Isla de la Tentación" and in 2004 he created, produced and edited several short films.

In 2007, he worked freelance in post-production, camera and lighting for Atenea Producción Audiovisual. In November 2008, he decided to expand his skills to direct films and managed to have his own production company called Traveling-Pro. In 2009, he moved to Brazil and settled in the city of Rio de Janeiro where he began to work freelance in some advertising agencies. At the same time, he began to frequent Rede Globo Producciones (an entertainment company) and there he contributed as a camera assistant, cameraman and photography assistant in some productions.

In early 2010, he filmed the documentary "Coupé-Décalé" (traditional music style, popular dance, from the Ivory Coast and the Ivorian community of Paris, France) in the favela of Cidade Alta, Rio de Janeiro. In January 2011, he returned to Montevideo and it was then that the opportunity arose to produce a journalistic and entertainment tv show called "Why are you leaving?", presenting the life of Uruguayan emigrants around the world. The program's pilot is finshed on May 25, 2012. In 2013, a new challenge starts: the making of the short film "Por Ella", a romantic and zombie story, within the thriller, fantasy and action genre.

Pre-production, production, filming and post-production finish in 2016. On October 8th of that same year, the short film premieres for the technical team, actors and collaboratorsat the Museum of Visual Arts in Montevideo. "Por Ella" has had international impact in different media and film festivals around the world. During the year 2021, it was awarded at the Los Angeles Super Indie Film Festival for “Best Short Film”, “Best Thriller”, “Best Producer”, “Best Supporting Actress”, “Best Costume Design” and “Best Editing”. In June of this year, the Tokyo International Short Film Festival awarded it a laurel for "Best Editing", qualifying the montage as a work of excellence. At the same time, OneReeler Short Film Festival in Los Angeles also awarded the short film an Honorable Mention and the jury of the ONYCO Awards Films Festival, an annual Estonian-Ukrainian festival, selected it as finalist.

Stanley Kubrick's famous quote "If it can be written or thought, it can be filmed" remains engraved into Giuseppe's mind every day. It does not lose power and shares a special place with a more recent one that defines a new path:

I have met extraordinary people, whom I have seen fight, grow and shine, and that fills my soul with joy. Joy and hope, because I see in them the lineage of the greatest. G. G.
