Conversations on the Lake
A film about land, water, and community in rural northern Canada in communities along Lake Superior. With the landscape as a central character of the film, speakers from rural towns, environmental organizations, and First Nation communities give voice to diverse ecological and social themes affecting Lake Superior. Themes include nuclear waste disposal, protection of water resources, and indigenous cultural protection.

Edie Steiner is a Toronto photographer and filmmaker. Her film screenings include the Museum of Modern Art, NY; Banff Centre for the Arts; Cinematheque Ontario; Cinémathèque Québecois; Collective for Living Cinema, NY; Arsenal Kino, Berlin; and many film festivals worldwide. Television broadcasts include CBC, Women’s Television Network, Vision TV, and MuchMusic. Photographic collections and exhibitions include the Art Gallery of Ontario, National Gallery of Canada, Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, and many exhibitions in artist-run and commercial galleries.
Edie Steiner holds a PhD in Environmental Studies at York University (2015). Her writing and media projects are published in the online journal The Goose, and her chapter "Requiem for Landscape" is published in Working on Earth: Class and Environmental Justice (2015).
My work is a fusion of scholarly interests and a longstanding lens-based media arts practice.
