Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ

1. Los participantes deben cubrir con todos los requisitos de la convocatoria para ser aceptados en las diferentes categorías.

2. Las inscripciones para la 16a edición del Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ (FICUVAQ) serán del lunes 30 de enero de 2023 y hasta el viernes 14 de abril de 2023.

3. Los participantes podrán presentar trabajos en las siguientes categorías:
- Cortometraje documental:

Representa con carácter informativo o didáctico hechos tomados de la realidad.

Duración máxima de 15 minutos (incluyendo créditos de entrada y salida). *

- Cortometraje de ficción:
Sucesos y personajes imaginarios.

Duración máxima de 10 minutos (incluyendo créditos de entrada y salida). *

- Cortometraje de animación:

2D, 3D, Stop Motion, Claymation, entre otras técnicas.
Duración máxima de 10 minutos (incluyendo créditos de entrada y salida). *

- Cortometraje experimental:

Nuevas formas de expresar experiencias, sentimientos o emociones.
Duración máxima de 10 minutos (incluyendo créditos de entrada y salida). *

- Cortometraje Conciencia UVAQ:
Problemática ambiental y social.
Duración máxima de 10 minutos (incluyendo créditos de entrada y salida). *


* El comité de selección podrá hacer excepciones.

4. El registro de cortometrajes se realiza en línea mediante la plataforma FilmFreeway.

5. Si eres estudiante, envía un correo electrónico a ficuvaq@uvaq.edu.mx con una copia de tu credencial universitaria (vigente). Recibirás un código (único) con el cual tu película será inscrita de manera gratuita.
Especificar en qué plataforma se va a registrar el cortometraje. 

Asunto del correo: “(nombre del cortometraje) - solicitud código estudiante”.

6. Alumnos y docentes de cualquier nivel académico pertenecientes a la Universidad Vasco de Quiroga podrán participar en el Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ.

En el caso de los docentes, pueden registrar cortometrajes para ser seleccionados solo como muestra, no son elegibles para ganar en alguna de las categorías. Para inscribirse, deberán enviar fotografía de su credencial oficial vigente que los acredita como parte de la UVAQ para recibir un código de inscripción gratuita a través del correo electrónico ficuvaq@uvaq.edu.mx; sin este requisito, no podrán participar a menos que cubran su cuota de inscripción pagando el 100% correspondiente a la fecha de su registro.

7. Se aceptan cortometrajes de todos los países.

8. No se aceptan proyectos incompletos.

9. Podrán participar producciones realizadas a partir del 2021.


10. No hay restricción del formato original de realización de la obra (desde smartphone hasta cualquier tipo de cámara).

11. No existe un límite de inscripciones de trabajos por realizador, productor o distribuidor, sin embargo, cada una de las obras se deberá inscribir por separado.

12. Cada uno de los trabajos deberá inscribirse en una sola categoría.

13. No podrán inscribirse cortometrajes que hayan participado en otras ediciones del Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ.

14. No se aceptarán videoclips, trabajos con fines comerciales o propagandísticos.

15. Para ser seleccionado no es requisito ser estreno en México, podrán participar cortometrajes que ya vieron exhibición en otros festivales realizados en el país o fuera de él.

16. El registro no garantiza la aceptación en el festival.

17. Para el proceso de selección todos los cortometrajes inscritos, cuya lengua sea distinta al español, deberán tener subtítulos en español o inglés.

18. El comité organizador realizará la selección oficial de cada categoría a partir de los siguientes criterios: concepto, interpretación, excelencia técnica y artística, originalidad e innovación.

19. Los autores de las obras seleccionadas serán contactados de forma privada mediante correo electrónico y también se les notificará en la plataforma de inscripción.

20. La selección oficial se dará a conocer el lunes 8 de mayo de 2023 en la página oficial y redes sociales del festival.

21. Una vez seleccionados los cortometrajes, los realizadores contarán con un plazo que se les dará por medio de correo electrónico para rectificar su información.

22. Todas las obras seleccionadas deberán proporcionar:
- Cortometraje (Full HD resolución mínima de 1080P - H.264).
- Sinopsis (en español e inglés).
- Ficha técnica (créditos; ciudad, estado o provincia y país; año de producción y duración del filme).
- Cartel (JPG 300 DPI).
- 3 fotogramas de la película (JPG 300 DPI).
- Foto del director (JPG 300 DPI).
- Tráiler del cortometraje (opcional).
- Press kit (opcional).

23. Para su exhibición en el festival, las películas seleccionadas cuya lengua sea distinta al español deberán ser entregadas con subtítulos en español (integrados en el archivo). Las obras habladas en español se entregarán subtituladas en inglés (integrado al archivo). Los responsables de la producción se comprometen a entregar copia de exhibición con estos requisitos.


24. El comité de premiación (jurado calificador) estará integrado por tres expertos en la materia.

25. La decisión de estos dos comités (selección y premiación) es inapelable y a criterio de los mismos, por tal motivo no se dará ninguna explicación a los realizadores o productores de los trabajos no seleccionados.

26. Los trabajos seleccionados podrán formar parte de alguna muestra que organice el Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ durante 2023 y principios de 2024 (de manera previa a la realización de la décimo séptima edición) sin fines lucrativos o cobro de algún tipo de cuota para asistentes y sedes.

27. El material enviado de los trabajos seleccionados se utilizará con fines de difusión y promoción del festival. Se usará un extracto del cortometraje no mayor al 20% de la duración total de la película en caso de no contar con un tráiler promocional.

28. El comité organizador de este festival establecerá las fechas, horarios y lugares de exhibición de cada película seleccionada. Se darán a conocer en la página oficial y redes sociales.

29. Todos los filmes seleccionados serán conservados por el comité como parte del acervo filmográfico del Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ.

30. Ningún cortometraje podrá ser retirado del programa del festival después de su selección oficial. Recomendamos leer completa la convocatoria antes de registrar sus cortometrajes.

31. El Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ no pagará por los derechos de exhibición (screening fees) del material participante.

32. El cortometraje deberá ser registrado por un titular (de preferencia productor o director), ya que, si resultara ganador, el premio se entregará a su nombre.

33. Los titulares del registro son responsables de los derechos de sus obras.

34. Conforme a la legislación en la materia, elementos del cortometraje como banda sonora, guion, personajes, entre otros, deberán ser originales, a menos que se pruebe la adquisición de los derechos correspondientes. Cualquier caso de plagio será descalificado automáticamente.

35. El plagio se presenta en dos situaciones: en una reproducción sin autorización; o bien, esencialmente en incorporar el contenido de una obra dentro de otra para atribuirse una creación que no es propia.

36. Al inscribirse, declara y garantiza que tiene pleno derecho legal y autoridad para presentar el proyecto para su consideración por parte del Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ, y que todos los consentimientos, licencias y aprobaciones necesarios se han obtenido con respecto a los mismos. En caso de que el trabajo sea aceptado por el festival, le otorga al FICUVAQ el derecho a utilizar el material para fines promocionales no comerciales sin limitaciones.

37. En ningún caso se hará difusión con fines comerciales.

38. El titular del registro indemnizará a los organizadores del Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ contra todas las reclamaciones, demandas, costos, daños, gastos (incluidos los honorarios legales), procedimientos y pérdidas resultantes de la proyección de la película en el festival o de reclamaciones de terceros.

39. Todos los trabajos seleccionados recibirán laureles de selección oficial y los trabajos ganadores recibirán laureles de ganador, estatuilla y reconocimiento.
Las categorías a premiar son:

- Mejor cortometraje documental.
- Mejor cortometraje de ficción.
- Mejor cortometraje de animación.
- Mejor cortometraje experimental.

- Mejor cortometraje Conciencia UVAQ.

40. Habrá un ganador único e inapelable en cada una de las categorías y si el comité de premiación así lo considera, otorgará menciones honoríficas.

41. El jurado tendrá la facultad de declarar alguna categoría como desierta.

42. La lista de los proyectos ganadores de la 16ª edición del Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ será publicada en la página oficial y redes sociales para su conocimiento y consideración el día 9 de junio de 2023.

43. Todo premio otorgado que no sea recibido en la ceremonia de clausura, podrán pasar a recibirlo en la Universidad Vasco de Quiroga (UVAQ) Campus Santa María, en Morelia, Michoacán, México. Una vez terminado el festival, se les notificará fechas de entrega mediante correo electrónico.

44. En caso de no poder recoger la estatuilla, el costo de envío es responsabilidad de quien inscribió la película.

45. Toda situación no prevista en esta convocatoria será resuelta por el comité organizador de este festival.

46. La inscripción y participación en la 16ª Edición del Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ implica la plena aceptación de este reglamento.

1. Participants must accomplish the following requirements to be accepted in the different categories.

2. The registration period for the 16th edition will be from January 30, 2023, until April 14, 2023.

3. Participants may submit in the following categories:
- Documentary short film:
Facts taken from reality with informational or didactic character.
Maximum duration: 15 minutes (including credits). *

- Fiction short film:
Imaginary events and characters.
Maximum duration: 10 minutes (including credits). *

- Animated short film:
2D, 3D, Stop Motion, Claymation, and other techniques.
Maximum duration: 10 minutes (including credits). *

- Experimental short film:
New ways to express experiences, feelings or emotions.
Maximum duration: 10 minutes (including credits). *

- Conciencia UVAQ short film:
Environmental and social problem.
Maximum duration: 10 minutes (including credits). *

* At the discretion of the committee of selection exceptions may occur.

4. The registration of short films is exclusively online in FilmFreeway platform.

5. If you are a student, send an email to ficuvaq@uvaq.edu.mx with a copy of your student ID (current). You will receive a (unique) code, with which your movie will be registered for free.
Make sure to specify on which platform the short film will be registered.
Subject of the mail: "(name of the short film) – student code request”.

6. Students and teachers of any academic level that belong to the Universidad Vasco de Quiroga can participate in the Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ.
In the case of teachers, they can register short films to be selected only out of competition; they are not eligible to win in any of the categories. To register, you must send a photograph of your valid ID that accredits you as part of the UVAQ to receive a free registration code via email from ficuvaq@uvaq.edu.mx; without this requirement, you will not be able to participate unless you cover your registration fee by paying 100% corresponding to the date of your registration.

7. Short films from all countries are accepted.

8. Incomplete projects are not accepted.

9. Productions made from 2021 and forwards may participate.

10. There’s no restriction of the original format of the film (from smartphone to any type of camera).

11. There’s no limit of work’s registrations by producer or distributor. However, each of the works must be registered separately.

12. Each of the films must be registered in a single category.

13. Short films that have participated in other editions of this festival cannot be registered.

14. Video clips or other work that has commercial or propagandistic content will be banned.

15. To be selected it’s not required for the short film to be a premiere in Mexico; short films that have already been exhibited at other festivals, may participate.

16. Registration of the short film doesn’t guarantee acceptance at the festival.

17. For the selection process, all registered short films, whose language is different from spanish, must have subtitles in spanish or english.

18. The organization committee will make the official selection for each category based on the following criteria: concept, interpretation, technical and artistic excellence, originality and innovation.

19. The authors of the selected works will be contacted by email, and will also be notified on the registration platform.

20. The official selection will be announced on May 8, 2023, on the official website and social networks of the festival.

21. Once the short films have been selected, the filmmakers will have a deadline, notified by email to rectify their information.

22. All selected films must provide:
- Short film (Full HD with minimum resolution of 1080p - H.264).
- Synopsis (in english and spanish).
- Technical specifications (short film credits; city, state or province & country; year of production and duration of the film).
- Poster (JPG 300 DPI).
- 3 frames of the film (JPG 300 DPI).
- Director’s photo (JPG 300 DPI).
- Short film trailer (optional).
- Press kit (optional).

23. For the exhibition at the festival, selected films spoken in a different language than spanish, must have subtitles in spanish (included in the file). Films spoken in spanish, must have subtitles in english (included in the file). Those responsible for production undertake to turn in an exhibition copy with these requirements.

24. The awards committee (qualifying jury) will be integrated by three experts.

25. The decisions of the selection and award committees are not subject to appeal, and within the criteria of the experts in the committees, for this reason no explanation will be given to the filmmakers or producers of the non-selected films.

26. The selected films may be part of an activity organized by the Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ during 2023 and early 2024 (before the 17th festival) without profit or cost of any type for attendees and venues.

27. The material sent from the selected works will be used for dissemination and promotion of the festival. An extract from the short film, no more than 20% of the total duration of the film, will be used in case of not having a promotional trailer.

28. The organization committee of this festival will establish the dates, times and places of exhibition of each selected film. They will be announced on the official website and social networks of the festival.

29. All selected films will be retained by the committee as part of the film collection on the Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ.

30. No short film may be withdrawn from the festival program after the its official selection. We recommend reading the entire call before registering your short films.

31. The festival will not pay for the screening fees of any material.

32. The short film must be registered by a headline (preferably producer or director), this, in case of winning, the prize will be awarded with the name of registration.

33. Registration holders are responsible for the rights of their works.

34. According to the legislation in the matter, elements of the short film such as soundtrack, script, characters and others, must be original, unless the acquisition of the corresponding rights is proven. Any case of plagiarism will be automatically disqualified.

35. We point out plagiarism in two situations: a reproduction without authorization; or, essentially incorporating content of a work into another to attribute a creation that’s not own.

36. By registering, you declare and guarantee you have full legal right and authority to present the project for consideration by Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ and all the necessary consents, licenses and approvals have been obtained. In the event that the film is accepted by the festival, it grants the rights to use the material for non-commercial promotional purposes of this festival, without limitations.

37. In any case distribution or broadcast will be made only for commercial purposes.

38. The holder of the registration will indemnify the organizers of the Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ against claims, demands, costs, damages, expenses (including legal fees), procedures and losses resulting from the screening of the film at the festival or third-party claims.

39. All selected works will receive official selection laurels and winning works will receive winner laurels, award and certificate.
The categories to be awarded are:
- Best documentary short film.
- Best fiction short film.
- Best animation short film.
- Best experimental short film.
- Best Conciencia UVAQ short film.

40. There will be a unique and unappealable winner in each of the categories and if the award committee considers it so, there will be honorable mentions.



41. The jury will have the power to declare some category as deserted.

42. The list of the winning projects of the 16th Edition of the Festival Internacional de Cortometraje UVAQ will be published in the official website and social networks for the knowledge and consideration on June 9, 2023.

43. Any prizes awarded that isn’t received at the closing ceremony may be withdrawn at the Universidad Vasco de Quiroga (UVAQ) in the city of Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico. Once the festival is over, delivery dates will be notified by email.

44. In case of not being able to collect the statuette, the shipping cost is responsibility of the person who registered the film.

45. Any situation not foreseen in this call, will be resolved by the organization committee of this festival.

46. Registration and participation in the 16th edition of this festival implies full acceptance of these regulations.
