Although women are estimated to make up 75-85% of the workforce in dance, they hold leadership positions such as Artistic Director and Choreographer in far fewer numbers and receive lesser payments for their work than their male counterparts. In fact, of the full-length premieres that were commissioned by the 50 largest ballet companies between 2018-23, only 18% were choreographed by women.

In an effort to remedy this underrepresentation we’re bringing women choreographers of the Pacific Northwest region to Portland, Oregon for a weekend-long showcase of the innovation and talent that women bring to the art form.

WCPNW is partnering with Portland Dance Film Fest to bring dance film choreographed by women of the Pacific Northwest to screen a couple dance films at the showcase!

Dance film must be choreographed by a woman who is based in the Pacific Northwest region of North America.

Films must be:
under 10 minutes
made within the last 5 years

In general, we are not looking for dance documentation or the capturing of dance works as live stage performances. We are open to, experimental films, narrative, and non-narrative and will only accept films with the story and concept told primarily through movement. If you have questions about your submission please contact us!

⚠️ Please note that the filmmaker must own or have cleared the copyright of all aspects of the submitted film. This includes all music and images used. WCPNW accepts no responsibility, financial or otherwise, in regards to clearing copyrighted material.
