TOPUIAW adheres to the spirit of "independent thinking, interesting expression". Since its establishment in 2011, it has been committed to animation creation, industry and academic dialogue and exchange, aiming to encourage the spirit of artistic creation, gather and support high-quality Chinese originals It is the first non-profit animated film art project in China planned by a private organization.

The competition is an important part of the event. Over the past twelve years, adhering to the spirit of encouraging and supporting original animation, we have discovered and displayed a large number of excellent original independent animation works. As of December 2023, we have received more than 5,700 submissions from more than 50 universities at home and abroad, a total of 509 shortlisted works, and 89 award-winning works have been selected. TOPUIAW will conduct interviews, publicity and promotion for the Finalist works and their creators. It will recommend them to participate in Screening and communication at well-known animation film festivals both domestically and internationally, as well as collaborate with important institutions and enterprises.

Since the organisation of TOPUIAW, a number of excellent animation creators have appeared, and we also uphold the principle of openness and diversity, and have been continuously encouraging the new force of animation, and do not impose any restrictions on the subject matter, genre and form of the work.

The most representative award of the independent animation forum spirit is used to encourage unique personal style, mature animation language and profound and interesting ideas.

Satoshi Kon Prize
Satoshi Kon Prize is a special award established to memorize the director Satoshi Kon. Reviewed by Japanese judges who inherit the spirit of Mr. Satoshi Kon, the award aims to explore the original creativity power of Chinese animation, and encourage animators to contemplate the reality, be full of imagination and produce animation works that have unique creativities.

Call for Entries Rules:
1.No registration fee will be charged.
2.The submitted works must be frame-by-frame animation, including computer-generated animation.
3.There are no restrictions on the subject matter of the works.
4.The works should have been completed after January 2023. Works that have previously participated in this competition cannot participate again.
5.Content such as scripts and music that do not have copyright permission cannot be used in the submitted works. If permission cannot be obtained, eligibility to participate will be lost. TOPU International Animation Week is not responsible for any infringement or claims initiated by third parties.
6.For participating entries, TOPU International Animation Week may use them for non-profit activities and exchanges (such as university tours) without notifying the author.
7.For participating entries, TOPU International Animation Week has the right to publicly use up to 10% of the total running time of a work or up to three minutes of film footage or related materials such as images for promotional purposes during Animation Week.
8.Award-winning films from other festivals can still participate but must provide information about their awards on the registration page.
9.As long as they meet these conditions, multiple submissions from one participant are allowed.

Required information for artwork submission:
1.Film
①A link to download the work must be provided, and the validity period must be until 30 April 2025.
②Video formats can be: MOV, AVI, MP4, or WMV. The resolution of the work should not be less than 720p, and try to use low compression or lossless compression. DCP files are not currently being accepted.
③If your work is shortlisted, you need to provide high-definition formats for screening to the forum organizing committee before 15th April: MOV, MPEG, MWV, MP4 (H.264, resolution 1920 × 1080 and above), not accepted for now DCP, 35mm, 16mm film, HD-CAM and other formats.
④For videos with narration or dialogue, please add English subtitles. For Chinese films, please add Chinese and English bilingual subtitles.

2.Information
①Introduction to the work (no word limit, bilingual in Chinese and English)
②One poster and 3 still photos of the work (about 5M, JPEG/PNG, 300dpi). The photo files must be named after the name of the person or the work.

①Director's biography (bilingual)
②Director's photo (life or art photos are acceptable)
