Midwest Fear Fest is a locally grown film festival founded in 2024 by filmmakers, for filmmakers. Our mission is to celebrate the thrill of horror and sci-fi, honor filmmakers from all backgrounds, and create a shared cinematic experience in Indianapolis. We specialize in programming short horror, thriller, and sci-fi films. We are dedicated to showcasing the most captivating short films from both local and international talent, striving to bring unique works to our community that might not otherwise receive distribution in this area.

This year’s festival will be held in front of a live audience at Kan-Kan Cinema in the heart of Indianapolis, IN on October 2, 2024. A Q&A will be held at the conclusion of the festival.

Midwest Fear Fest welcomes submissions from filmmakers of all levels of experience and budget. Whether you're a new or seasoned filmmaker, working with a big budget or no budget at all, we want to highlight the innovation of storytellers regardless of their resources.

Please note that we will not be accepting full-length films.

Films with significant ties to Indiana are eligible for reduced submission fees by submitting to the Locally Grown category. Examples of eligibility include the director, writer, or actors being current Indiana residents or natives, or the film being primarily shot in Indiana. Please note that if your film is submitted to this category and does not meet this criterion, it may be disqualified.

Please submit your film to ONE CATEGORY ONLY. For example, if your film is submitted in the Locally Grown category, it will also be eligible for consideration as a general Horror/Sci-Fi/Thriller short. Please submit to the most specific category possible.

If you would like clarification on which category to submit to, please contact midwestfearfest@gmail.com.

Films will be judged by industry professionals, fellow filmmakers, and genre lovers alike!
