Who are Lexington’s best student filmmakers? SCREEN SLAM aims to find out!

A project of Bluegrass Film Friends and The Kentucky Theatre, SCREEN SLAM invites Lexington, Kentucky high school filmmakers to submit their work to this brand-new student film festival.

Films selected for SCREEN SLAM will be screened at the historic Kentucky Theatre on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Winning films will receive a monetary prize and will receive a fee waiver for the Twelve Lions Film Festival, The Kentucky Theatre’s competitive international film festival.

And the winners will have bragging rights as Lexington’s Best Student Filmmakers!

Best Film $300 + waiver for entry into Twelve Lions Film Festival
1st Runner-up $200 + waiver for entry into Twelve Lions Film Festival
2nd Runner-up $100 + waiver for entry into Twelve Lions Film Festival

1) SCREEN SLAM only accepts submissions through FilmFreeway.
2) Films must be no longer than 5 minutes.
3) Filmmakers must be currently enrolled in a high school in Fayette County, Kentucky.
4) All films must be the original work of the filmmakers and all filmmakers must have any necessary rights.
5) Films must have embedded English-language subtitles, where appropriate. For promotional purposes, submissions must include a brief film synopsis; a downloadable trailer, if available; and a digital poster in 2x3 aspect ratio.
6) Films must be one-offs, not part of a series.
7) All entries will be viewed and given equal consideration.
8) All decisions of programmers and jurors are final.
9) Film Faceoff does not pay screening fees for films.
10) If your film is selected for inclusion in the festival, you will receive instructions for submitting a hi-res screenable copy of your film. It is the sole responsibility of the filmmaker to send all required materials. Any physical materials can be picked up at the festival if filmmaker is attending. If you require your materials to be returned to you, a self-addressed pre-paid envelope must be sent to Screen Slam c/o The Kentucky Theatre, 214 E Main, Lexington, KY 40507. If requirements are not met, SCREEN SLAM has the right to eliminate the film from the festival or adjust the screening copy to fit our required secs.
11) If accepted as an Official Selection, films are to be uploaded to the designated SCREEN SLAM dropbox. Providing a backup on thumb-drive is advisable.
12) All submitted materials must include the FilmFreeway tracking number and additional information as listed in the General Rules.
13) All Official Selection filmmakers grant SCREEN SLAM, The Kentucky Theatre, and BFF a non-exclusive limited-use agreement to use selected portions of films chosen for competition, and/or use film promotional materials to promote the festival, including the rights to utilize any excerpt from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition for promotional purposes. Filmmakers fully retain all rights, title and interest in their films and all intellectual property.
14) Neither SCREEN SLAM nor The Kentucky Theatre accept responsibility for damage or loss of materials. Please do not send ORIGINAL or MASTER copies.
15) By agreeing to these Terms and Conditions, you certify that you hold any necessary rights for the submission of this film and have read the regulations. Your submission is your acceptance of all the Terms and Conditions listed under these Rules and Terms.
