Born in Taichung, Taiwan in 1986, Yu-Chao Tsai decided that he wanted to produce films at the age of 28. He had previously graduated from the Department of Physics, National Tsing Hua University and earned a master’s degree in science. Furthermore, he once developed a missile defense system in the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology. In 2015, he began to work part-time during the day while attending the night school opened by the Department of Motion Pictures, National Taiwan University of Arts. In 2016, he began shooting various public announcements, including about dengue fever prevention and control for the Kaohsiung City Government, as well as all kinds of advertisements and short online films. In 2017, he worked as an Assistant Project Manager in the National Applied Research Laboratories and completed the documentary "Talk to AI" at the end of the year.
Starting as a documentary of the speech AI contest, no one knew exactly how the storyline would go when filming first began. To film of the many subjects (30 participating teams) within just two short months, we are fortunate to find enough content worth recording before editing it all into a 30-minute documentary in a restrictive framework. The main theme not only addresses how human beings view the development of science and technology, but also how such development echoes through history. Throughout the entire developmental process, the exact scientific methods adopted to achieve our objectives have become an issue worthy of our discussion.
