Wilber Mendoza is an independent dance artist and interdisciplinary creator. Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, he studied Art High School with minor in Theater at CEDART Miguel Cabrera. In 2016 he was awarded with a Full Artistic Scholarship to join the Bachelor in Dance program at Universidad de las Américas Puebla, where he graduated in 2020.
From 2018 to 2020, he was a dancer at Proyecto: Segundo Piso contemporary dance company, in Cholula, Mexico. He was also part of Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP) artistic groups: Danza UDLAP (2016 - 2020), Ballet UDLAP (2017 - 2019) and Teatro Musical UDLAP (2016 - 2017).
Wilber has been part of national and international programs such as: Gaga Intensive in Barcelona (Spain 2019), Texas Dance Improvisation Festival (USA, 2019), Festival Internacional VideodanzaBA (2019), Muestra Movimiento Audiovisual (Mexico, 2019) and Performática (Mexico, 2018).
His work is specialized in improvisation practices and dancefilm-making. By using movement languages and technological tools, Wilber seeks to understand gender identity and its expression in the current society. He embraces his vulnerability and sensibility order to create kind and generous interdisciplinary works, both for stage and for screen.
He has performed works of national and international artists such as: YeaJean Choi, Ray Swartz, Julius Brewster Cotton, Lisa Kusanagi, Mayra Morales and Angel Arámbula. Wilber has presented and screened his work in Mexico, United States and Argentina, as well as in digital platforms: Vimeo, Instagram and Teatro Polivalente virtual mode.
Currently, Wilber hosts the podcast Dancers 2020, where he collects curiosities, experiences and new approaches to face 2020 challenges in dance. He is Media Ambassador with kNOwBOX dance and dancer with Moving Borders Company (2020-2021).
