Islam Kamal was born in Alexandria 24/1/1978 and graduated from Fine Arts (Alexandria University) in 2001. Aside from self-studying aesthetics, philosophy and arts, he studied cinematography at CERMED. Since 2004 he has been working as DOP, editor and director.
Islam co-founded Fig Leaf Studios in 2005. In 2016, he co-founded the documentary film program CINEDELTA to support young film-makers from Alexandria and the Delta. Islam is interested in enriching the independent filmmaking scene and bridging gaps in expertise, for example as a teacher and mentor at the Jesuit Film School.
Between 2011 and 2018, so many questions wandered in my mind, I do not claim that they were unprecedented, but what was in fact new and fresh that these questions became more insistent to be answered.
That period witnessed the Egyptian revolutionary masses mobility that has overthrew several beliefs and balances, which contributed in creating a neoteric subconscious and an image of an anxious adolescent who gets worried about what is possible, and how far can imagination take him.
Classification differences between films are one of the ways to experience other’s lives that come across with the viewer’s life through emotions involvement and compensation of missing episodes of one’s series of feelings.
Some people consider Cinema as a mirror that reflects the surrounding community by being one of the most performing arts circulation.
