w0ar

An experimental music video to an electroacoustic music piece, created as a collaboration between two woman-identifying students. Depicts urban life without any footage of humans. Provokes reflection on the impact of modern human lifestyles on the landscape, plants and animals that we coexist with. Created with collected footage from around the city of Calgary, and interspersed with animated sequences of concrete and litter.

Director Statement

In no shot, will you find a human. W0ar accentuates the non-human aspects of our urban world, from plants and weather, to urban wild animals, trash, and machines. I wanted the viewer to be able to see our world in a new way - a way that can only be seen on screen, with the assistance of editing to open one's eyes to a new way of seeing the world. I've been asked; is it apocalyptic? You'll have to decide that for yourself. Filmed on a 10 year old digital camera, and an iPhone 5, the often compromised quality of the footage, serves to reinforce the material aspect of the film, and remind the viewer that the film itself is an aspect of our urban world.
