Bridal Ballad by Edgar Allan Poe - A film by Vivian Reiff

Bridal Ballad is a poem from 1837 by Edgar Allan Poe which is the basis for an animation film that focuses on the themes of marriage, love, loss and a desire for happiness. Another key point is the symbolic finality and despair that comes with it.

The poem demonstrates that no matter how powerful and legally binding a marriage is, it cannot change who you fall for. It presents the misgivings of a young woman who married a wealthy man after a soldier she loved died in battle.

I worked with my talented friend Marc Weiss to create the score that is used in the film. It was adapted to the rhyme scheme of the poem and illustrates the despair of love in brutal times.

The film was supervised by Prof. Gerwin Schmidt in the second year of my studies at the State Academy of Art & Design Stuttgart.
