Matthew C. Vella is an international award-winning filmmaker & entertainer from Blacktown, Western Sydney. Born of Maltese immigrant parents, Matt is a proud pop culture nerd who has dedicated his life to entertaining others.

Matt’s debut film Bleeding Backs (2016) won awards both internationally and at home, with 5 wins & 15+ official selections, screening in the US, Canada, U.K, New Zealand and all over Australia. His follow up saw him switching genres to comedy with She's Not Your Type (2018). It’s premiere at Made in the West Film Festival 2018 saw it taking home the Audience Choice Award, and shortly after won Best International Director at both Austin Comedy Short Film Festival & Women's Comedy Film Festival in Atlanta.

Matt also founded and hosts Western Sydney Filmmakers Hangout - a popular networking group for Western Sydney filmmakers. Western Sydney Filmmakers Hangout has 1000+ members and hosts live events regularly. These events have previously been partnered with organisations such as Screen Australia, Arts and Cultural Exchange (ACE), Made in the West Film Festival and more.
