After graduating with a degree in Communications and Film Studies from UMass Amherst in 2004 (awarded the Michael S. Roif Award for Excellence in Film & Video), Sam became a director, cinematographer and editor working on commercials and music videos. In 2009 he directed IFC’s broadcast series “Cutting Ties” based on his award winning short film. Sam followed up by writing, directing and editing the narrative film “Good Fences,” (Best In Fest at the Granite State Film Festival in 2015, Emerging Filmmaker award at the Roxbury International Film Festival in 2014). Sam works as video editor on commercials for major brands such as JBL, Bissell, Harmon Kardon, PureLeaf Iced Tea, Ben & Jerry's and Ulta Beauty. Active on sets and in editing rooms since childhood, Sam has applied his passion for cinema to his work as an educator, mentor and facilitator for UMass Amherst's Project 2050, the Boston Public Schools, Boston's Press Pass TV, UMass Boston's Native Tribal Scholars program, Gann Academy high school, Brandeis University Summer Programs, and is presently the Film Instructor at Filmmakers Collaborative in Melrose, MA.
Uzi is the result of a massive volunteer effort by a collection of brilliant artists from New England, filmed entirely in Boston MA and the surrounding areas. Uzi was written during and inspired by the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. Enjoy!
